I wish I just went to school.
I loved doing things that I knew I wasn’t supposed to do, and that must have been the reason why I did it in the first place.
My friend Jodie and I had planned to skip school one day. We had it all planned out from the minute we left the house to later that afternoon, strolling in complaining about homework and school buses. ...
After my brother Jamie and I had left the house for school that morning, I stopped him and told him that I needed to nip back home for something that I had forgotten. ... I wasn’t allowed one of my own as I was too careless and forgetful, in fact totally unreliable. These were just a few of the words I remembered from my Mums daily lectures on responsibility, and my lack of it! Looking back, maybe I should have taken a little more interest in what my Mum had to say.
So there I was back at my house with a clever little smirk on my face. I unlocked the front door and, after a moment, slammed it shut. After making hand movements in front of the door handle, as though to lock the door, I threw the key to Jamie and yelled “I’m going to meet Jodie.”
Jamie would assume that I had gone back into the house phone her and arrange for her to meet me.
