The movie “A Class Divided” really shocked me. I was shocked in how one person could influence the views of so many people. In class, we discussed the labeling theory, and this movie shows it in action. Being labeled a brown eyed person or a blue eyed person really meant something to the kids. It surprised me in what a difference it made when one group was the “inferior class” as opposed to the other group. Their performance in school dropped, along with their attitudes about themselves when they were the inferior eye color. One of the things that really made the movie shock me was that in the beginning, the teacher, Jane Elliot, asks kids what they think about disliking people because of the color of their skin.
