In 1949 George Orwell prophesied 1984 to be a year of government corruption that would take away creativity, individualism, and free thought. In this "Negative-Utopia" Orwell depicts the life of Winston Smith, who represents the average citizen of Oceania. ... Orwell feared they would ban books from the people of 1984, and Huxley feared that they had no need or want to read them regardless. Orwell feared that the truth would be hidden from us while Huxley feared that the truth would be worn thin until becoming irrelevant. Orwell also feared that what we hate would destroy us.
