With a shortage of Caucasian men on the home front, African Americans and Women all over the country took over the jobs that these men left behind to go to the war and fight. ... They jumped at the chance of new job opportunities; both African Americans and Women took over many positions in the workplace that was once held predominately by Caucasian men. Nevertheless, women and African Americans were still treated as second-class citizens and employees with little respect form employers and military officers.
