The Classical Era refers to the converging of views of society between the years 1750-1800. The first view was leftover from the Baroque Era, which said nobility had absolute power in society. The second view was that of the middle class, who said that the nobility had gone too far with their power and should give some of their power over to the middle class. This era has been called the "Golden Age of Music" because it was at this time that the major forms of Classical music; the symphony, concerto, sonata, and string quartet were fully developed. ‘Classicism refers to the aesthetic attitudes and principles manifested in the art, architecture, and literature of ancient Greece and Rome and characterized by emphasis on form, simplicity, proportion, and restraints; this influence is clearly seen in the architecture of the time.” Social Conventions was a set of codes in which everyone knew their place in society. It was also the way society dressed; hairstyles, etiquette, and courtesy. Courtesy in writing and in the skill of conversation was anticipated. Popular clothing of the time was a brocaded coat and silver shoe buckles. Brocaded clothing was that of heavy fabric interwoven with a rich, raised design. People wore powdered wigs and bowing was expected as part of proper etiquette. Europe began to industrialize rapidly. It grew from very meek beginnings in Britain where cotton textile was manufactured.
