Darkness If anyone looked at Ashley, she would have appeared to be a regular teenager. But the truth was, she was not. Though she was of average height, had gorgeous golden locks flowing down and looked perfectly fine, she was actually a fourteen-year old girl who was suffering from cancer. She was still pretty strong as she was only in the early stages of that dreadful illness. She was home tutored as her father, Jackson, was afraid that she would be stressed out if she was to attend public school, even if it meant having a poor social life. Her mother, Judy, did not work. She stayed at home to care for her. Her father, on the other hand, worked as an accountant in the North Tower at the World Trade Center. Her family was not of very high financial status. She was an only child, but her medical bills were quite costly at times. Ashley woke up to a pleasent morning on the eleventh of September 2001. The first twittering of birdsong rose up outside, and the dawn chorus was beginning. She could smell the sweet scent of waffles, wafting on the warm breeze.
