Initiation At some point in life, everyone will experience some kind of initiation or rite of passage. In Huckleberry Finn, Jim, a runaway slave, experiences a rite of passage when instead of just thinking about his own wishes, he risks his life and the little freedom he had to take Tom to a doctor in town. After learning what he did, the townspeople decided he deserved freedom. In Bless Me, Ultima, Antonio worries constantly about what he is meant to be when he is older and ready. His mom wants him to be a priest. His father wants him to be a farmer.
