Born in 1694 to a working class family, François Quesnay was hailed by many as the start of a new school of thinking in Economic history. ... Regardless, Quesnay was an important economist for the 18th century in Europe. At the time, economists were either for or against mercantilism, and, like Hume, Quesnay did not believe in mercantilism. François Quesnay started his young professional career as a barber-surgeon in the town of Mantes, France. Most of his early accomplishments came in the field of medicine whereas he was partly responsible for “elevating the status of surgery into a medical science“ and helped to set up a college of surgeons in France (François Quesnay, 1694-1774, cepa. ...
