Abstract Folder Guard is an application specifically designed for windows that enables the user to restrict access to virtually any file, folder, program or utility on a computer. This article gives an overview of the various uses of the program and how it works. We will also look at the costs and benefits of using this particular application. Folder Guard Folder Guard is an application used to restrict unauthorized users from accessing almost any file, folder or utility on one’s computer. This program will even prohibit the computer itself from accessing any locked files. Folder Guard is based on technology which tells the computer that a particular file or folder is not accessible and therefore cannot be opened. There are however varying settings which can be used to label a folder visible, read-only or hidden. This application has more than one version, so the user can choose the version which will best meet their needs. Folder Guard Professional is mainly used for machines running Windows XP Professional and servers and is more business oriented, but it can be used in the home also. Businesses could install this application on their computers in order to restrict access to certain files or folders to protect vital information on their intranet. Folder Guard is able to support multiple levels of protection for many users through the use of passwords which are needed to change the settings of files and folders. The software can also be utilized in any setting where a computer is used by many people such as a public computer at a library.
