12 days away from his team’s opening match of the new season, coach Peter Rohde believes he has 20 of the 22 spots in the new-look Western Bulldogs’ line-up locked-in. Speaking ahead of training at Whitten Oval on Tuesday morning, Rohde said there’s no comparison between his selection options now and 12 months ago when he was preparing for his debut as a senior AFL coach. “Last year we played 12, 13, 14 players each week who had played between 10 and 50 games. That caused us a lot of pain, to be honest, short-term, but long-term we will see the benefits of that,” Rohde said. “We’ve been able to recruit some quality players into the club and there’s no doubt there’s a lot more competition for spots in our first game than there was at this time 12 months ago.” According to Rohde, just about every line for the match against West Coast at Telstra Dome on Sunday week will feature a new recruit or an old hand on the comeback trail.
