September 11, 2001 is a day we will always remember. The destruction of the World Trade Center in New York and the loss of 3000 innocent lives was devastating. In the aftermath of these horrific attacks Colin Powell stated, “We are at war with terrorism”. Howard argues that the Bush administration had made an irreversible error by using the word war instead of perhaps a more appropriate word such as emergency. He describes the resulting effects this has on society and he brings to light the questions what were their goals? And have the Terrorists already won? Howard uses many historical facts involving the British and gives his outlook on the future and what we could expect. In Howard’s view this fight should be taken care of as if it were a drug war, meaning the use of police forces, vice military forces, investigations, vice all out attack and suitable sentences for those found guilty. The British in the 1950’s we in a similar situation according to Howard, one to which I do not agree. The Malaya emergency, which the British called it, was the most successful operation of this kind.
