After the primary questionnaire men who did not satisfy the criteria of a reported daily energy intake were excluded from the study. This resulted in 1,595 men being eliminated. Eliminations were also made if there was reported diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or cancer except nonmelanoma skin cancer. ... In total, 42,504 men remained in the study and participated in follow-ups questionnaires for type 2 diabetes for the next 12 years. Biennial questionnaires were completed throughout the years in order to stay updated on exposures, to identify new cases of type 2 diabetes, and other diseases.
