Jihad has different interpretations throughout the Muslim world. Jihad is defined as, in a Western dictionary, A Muslim holy war or spiritual struggle against infidels. How you interpret that is up to the person at hand. One might say to them, a jihad is striving to lead a good Muslim life, while another might say that jihad to them means to spread the word of Islam. Then you have the militants who believe jihad means to fight and spill the blood of infidels wherever they lye. Usually the word jihad has been used in conflicts involving Muslims to give their acts some type of legitimacy and authority. Muhammad’s Jihad Islam was founded in a rough section of the world. It lies in Arabia between two superpowers fighting for control of trade routes through their lands. Tribal wars between battling factions was ragging out of control as vendettas and corruption took place.
