70's comedies

All in the Family, Good Times and The Jeffersons subverted the sitcom genre ways that had been never been seen before. In light of the realism and audience identification they were trying to capture, the audience grew with the character. Typical sitcom had consisted of characters that always did the same thing week after week. Nobody substantially changed and no problems were really solved or many times even presented for that matter; there’s predictability. In these shows however, we saw Gloria really grow up, Archie go through retirement, and Edith go through menopause, later she even loses her faith in religion, most all women on the shows become more self aware and obtain jobs for the first time in decades, All in the family also tackled the greatest comedy no no’s Edith leaves Archie and later dies.
