1915 The year 1915 is not just significant because it was one of the years that World War I was fought, but it is significant for the events that took place during this time period. Most events were known but there were some key events that went unknown to the common people. The year 1915 was a key point in history. One single event that was significant was the simple fact that on the front line, in the trenches, the Germans were using poisonous gas. At the second battle of Ypres, the hardest and hottest war on the extreme Western Front, the Germans made a third desperate attempt to break through the comnbined British and Belgian lines and take the important City of Calais. The Germans had probably been planning to attack with gas ever since matters began to come to a deadlock in the Carpathians. The Germans launched infantry attacks in their old manner, close-locked. Then as usual, the British and Frnch slaughtered them heavily with machine guns and rifle power. Finally, on Thursday April 22, the Germans attacked with asphyxiating bombs filled with a mysterious gas. Whatever gas it was it rose as a greenish vapor cloud then spread rapidly and remained close to the ground. This gas, once it hit the French and British, made them nausious to the point of collapsing; and them paralyzied them in a matter of seconds. Once the soldiers were paralyzied the Germans ran up and shot them in the head.
