	I. INTRODUCTION H.E.R.E. Local 5 Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union is one of the largest and strongest unions in Hawaii. From its beginnings in 1937, Local 5 has grown into a membership of over 10,000. The union currently represents a number of employees throughout the Hawaiian Islands, including Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island.
