“…And Isn’t it Ironic? Don’t You think?

According to some, Kevin Smyth’s dogma has a great emphasis on the drastic changes that the Catholic religion and the faith of Catholics themselves have undergone. At the same time however, these differences emphasize the similarity of Catholicism two millenniums ago and now. One of these changes is the actual essence of people’s beliefs. Here we take the two experiences of Bartleby and Bethany. In the movie, these two characters undergo certain experiences that lead to them a certain disappointment or shortness completion in their faith in God. Another example of the new era of Catholicism is the way that violence left the good side, as believed by the Crusaders, to jump into the evil side, as portrayed in the film’s last scene. The similarity however is implied eventually by the prevalent notion of good, that is Ex-angel, Bartleby was banished to Wisconsin for having disagreed with God. In this movie, Winsconsin represents a place where nothing happens. In human ways, this results in boredom which, as some might interpret, is one of the lesser feelings known to man. Basically, Wisconsin is a softer version of hell. As the movie goes on, Bartleby and his co-angel Loqui- also banished for disagreeing with god- find out that they can be pardoned, and thereby no longer banished in “Wisconsin-Hell”, by walking through a portal in a specific church.
