Both Iago and Othello should share blame for the tragedy.
Discuss
The play “Othello” is based on a tragedy where characters are manipulated, betrayed and brought to downfall by the villain of the play, Iago. All the action in “Othello” revolves around Iago’s successful deception. However, Even Othello, a basically noble and honest public figure and also the centre of Iago’s deception, shows an irrational and violent side to his nature towards the end of the play. He can also be regarded as a practiser of deception, although of much more subtle ways than that of wicked Iago. Othello takes on self deception; it is less obvious but eventually just as destructive as Iago’s deception.
