This is a normal beginning of a day in the Younger’s house. A sunrise with a lot of discussion between the family members, most of them caused by Walter Lee. He begins the day talking about money, and complaining about his role in life as a chauffer. He is created to represent a typical man who really worries about his family’s problem. That’s why he is the causative of the discussion in the Younger’s house, because he really wants to improve their lives. Hansberry believes that greedy people will never succeed in life as much as they would like to. Possibly, as more desire they have, more negative consequences they will have. Thanks to Walter Lee’s greediness, neither he nor his family couldn’t see their dreams come true one hundred percent. Everyone in the family has a dream; Mama’s dream is to keep his family in unity and buy a house where they would live comfortable; Ruth’s dream is just have a better lifestyle; and Beneatha’s dream is to be a doctor, which was really hard for a black woman at that time. Because Walter’s desire of having money and power, he put these people’s dreams in jeopardy. He thinks that money is the most important thing in life. Also, he has several discussions with his wife, Ruth, because he is always talking about money. Generally, most of his actions and mistakes hurt the family greatly. Most of these problems are because he does not seem to be a good listener. He does not seem to understand that he must pay attention to his family member’s anxiety in order to help them. There is like a controversy because his family wants him to listen a do what they think is the right thing; but Walter wants his family to listen to him, and he also wants to persuade them about his position. Walter is frustrated with the position that he has in the society, and every disappointment he has met through the time.
