Jayel Labe 2-20-04 Wenger Paragraph Summaries Rush Limbaugh III “Condoms: The New Diploma” “The Logic and motivation behind this country’s mad dash to distribute free condoms in school is ridiculous and misguided.” Rush Limbaugh spends no time getting to his thesis. According to Limbaugh, schools should not distribute free condoms. Likewise, schools should reformat their sexual education programs to teach abstinence as opposed to protective measures. He attempts to support his argument by use of comparisons such as, if we assume that kids are going to have sex and give them condoms to avoid the consequences, why not assume kids are going to do drugs and in turn distribute free untainted drugs to protect them. Limbaugh also contends the aim of people who support such programs is selfish. “…there are many people who wish to go through life guilt free…In order to assuage their guilt they attempt to construct and impose policies which not only allow them to engage in their chosen activities, but to encourage others to do so as well”. Or maybe it’s radically conservative radio hosts that attempt to make us feel guilty for our behavior while promoting racism and having private drug addictions on the side?
