We all experience peer pressure in life, some of it we ‘brush off’, while other times we resign ourselves to accepting defeat. ... Recently I read an article on peer pressure and how it affected college students, this article: “Opinions and Social Pressure” made me think about how many of my opinions are actually my own and how many I get from the public majority.

Some people may ask what is the definition of peer pressure? In the American Heritage College dictionary peer pressure is defined as: social pressure on somebody to adopt a particular type of behavior, dress, or attitude in order to be accepted as part of a group. Peer pressure occurs when an individual experiences implicit or explicit persuasion, sometimes amounting to coercion, to adopt similar values, beliefs, and goals, or to participate in the same activities as those in the peer group.
Many people think that peer pressure influences only young children but in reality adults experience peer pressure just as much as young children. In 1965 a psychiatrist named Solomon Asch, reported a study on the power of group pressure on college students. ...
