The nature of the suffering in this poem is that the suffering can be endured by doing all one’s duty. In the first stanza, the speaker says that his father sold him after his mother‘s death when he was not even able to say a word, “sweep”. “Weep”, the onomatopoeic word for sweep, is used here in order to show that the speaker’s situation has changed. The word ”weep” represents the suffering that the speaker is going to face in his future. Using the word “weep”, the speaker appeals the pitiful lives of chimney sweepers to readers.
