Action is portrayed in different ways in different genres. Discuss ways in which action is portrayed in Pygmalion and Wide Sargasso Sea.
Action is indeed portrayed very differently in different genres. The two genres that I am drawing from are drama in the shape of Pygmalion and Wide Sargasso Sea which falls into the prose fiction category. ... The two genres seem to become apparent when looking at both books as in Wide Sargasso Sea feelings can be described whereas in Pygmalion it is very much left to the characters/actors to try and communicate these feelings to the audience.
Because Pygmalion is a play it is composed mainly of dialogue and everything else has to be portrayed through other means such as action and music. ...
When one compares the scene in Wide Sargasso Sea and the scene on Pygmalion where Mrs Eynsford-Hills buys some of Eliza’s flowers it is obvious of some coherent differences between the two genres. ... This scene can be compared to one in Wide Sargasso Sea where Antionette addresses as a “cheating nigger”, as Antionette has been raised with the racist attitude and assumes that Tia is of a ‘different world’ and is perhaps more primitive than herself, this becomes apparent later on in the text when it goes onto highlight how Tia is more of a survivor than Antionette.
