Immature Salesman Growing up is merely more than just becoming an old man/woman. Willy Loman has never matured into an adult. As he grows in years, he fails to grow in maturity. This lack of maturity can be shown by simple things he does, and are often overlooked. Willy’s lack of a father figure and no real support from his wife were the leading factors that set Willy on his way to becoming an immature man. Without a father figure a boy never has someone to go to for advice or to imitate and basically learn how to become a man. Ben, Willy’s uncle, was the closest thing Willy had to a father figure. Ben was a happy go lucky guy, walked into a good life by luck and not by hard work. This was not something a young Willy needed to base his life upon. Willy’s wife, Linda, was also a factor to Willy’s immaturity. Their entire marriage is based upon making Willy happy and allowing him to live in his own fantasy world.
