Within the novel Enduring Love, Mc Ewan uses different types of techniques to bring across the varieties of love, he also how they develop throughout the novel. Love is one of the most important factors within the novel as it’s a constant test to see which one will survive and endure at the end.
One key relationship in Enduring Love is between Joe and Clarissa, we see how it changes under the stress and strains invoked by Jed parry. ... “I love you”, parry is directed about his emotion, and it shows it has meaning and purpose because it’s a continuous phrase Jed uses. ... , the aspect of fear is resented rationally in the way Joe tries to justify love within the novel. Parry’s love of course is pathological and obsessive and this is reflected in the letters he writes to Joe. ...
The language Jed uses to express his emotions is often poetic and genuine; this takes on the shape of a romantic love letter. ... As in one letter he says, “it was torture, Joe, coming face to face with your sad dry thoughts” this shows how Jed is becoming quite bitter and his impatience towards Joe, this also shows the development Jed is undertaking and how his unrequited love is feeding his obsession. ... Mc Ewan has chosen to represent Jed’s love for Joe so it has double meaning and signifies it’s more important than any other kind of love described in the novel. ... “No more rocky up hill” he views his and Joe’s relationship in a serious way and takes on the role of real love. ...
Another type of love in enduring love is the dying love jean Logan has for her dead husband, as she believes he had an affair.
