14th amendment

The Gilded age was filled with corruption and immoral acts.. The Presidents of this time were weak and also tainted by corruption as well as being involved in scandal. Few Presidents of this time can be recognized as good but the one to stand out, as the best is most likely Rutherford B. Hayes. Throughout his terms Hayes began a long journey to create an honest, and hard working system. Rutherford B. Hayes worked long and hard to create an honest Government. One of Hayes most significant acts was the resolution of Reconstruction. This was a very bad period in the history of American politics, which encased corruption and scandal. Hayes being a good person took action and started to begin a long struggle towards good politics. With Hayes order to withdrawal Federal troops form the South Reconstruction was ended, this was done so with the Compromise of 1877. This compromise although sacrificing the black man's freedom brought peace to the tensions among the North and South thus. Hayes' temperance reforms and vetoed efforts to restrict Chinese immigration were both achievements which can be used to argue that he is the Best President of this time.
