Did you know that 94% of local television news sport coverage goes to men’s sport? Women’s sport only gets 5% and gender neutral gets 1%. ... Today I will be arguing that women are not portrayed in the sports industry like men are. In 52 weeks of Sports illustrated 6 women where awarded cover shots. ... Women are being pushed aside when it comes to sports coverage. Women aren’t getting enough exposure not only in magazines, but in newspaper and television as well. This has got to stop, the media representation of women in sports is insulting. We all know that men and women are not looked upon equally in sport. ... Women have been discriminated against when it comes to sport since they were allowed to actually participate in it. In the sports industry women are only recognised if they have sex appeal to the general public. ... Yes these women are attractive, but so are half the men in the sports industry but are they look upon as a sex symbols? ... Recently the women’s hockey and Soccer team decided to do a nude calendar so they would get financial support. This is wrong how women have to go to these extremities to get some financial aid. You might ask what is wrong with wanting to portray a women athletes as feminine and physically attractive? Well there is nothing wrong with these women athletes looking attractive, but they deserve the same respect for their athletic abilities as men get.
