1. What is the author¡¯s thesis or main point? What reasons does he give for his part of view? Smoking is harmful to health and a habit should quit soon. However quit smoking is by smokers themselves, not by government or penalizing tobacco companies. Because it is one of basic human rights to preserve the freedom to opt not only for what is beneficial to him, but also for what harms or injures. 2. Llosa describes his own smoking at length what vivid details show the importance that smoking had in his life and daily routines. Why does he spend so much time describing his own habit? Because he wants to show how the habit of smoking that was began as early as 7 or 8 had controlled his whole life until he quit smoking. Also he says it was very difficult for him, a long-period addict, to quit smoking though he suffered from some illness such as bronchial problem and sneezing and coughing in winter. 3. Why did Llosa finally quit smoking?
