Do parents and coaches put too much pressure on kids to win in youth sports? Throughout my life what I remember most is the days when Andrew, Jasmine, and me would play basketball until the sun went down. We didn’t have a care in the world, and all we wanted to do was have fun. Playing basketball taught us how to work as a team, and how to compete against each other in a positive way. Although winning is important, youth sports should be played for fun. The children should be at an early stage of their learning process at that young of an age. In today’s society, youth sports aren’t played for fun anymore; youth sports are more competitive than ever before. They are more organized, and with the organization brings more pressure to win. Whitlow 2 Organized youth sports can and should be fun for kids of all ages. Last year I helped coach a peewee team, and not only was it a learning experience for them, it was a learning experience for me also. The kids were there to have fun, and I was there to help them accomplish that.
