The art of persuasion is a great gift given to certain people during times of crisis. Throughout any revolutions, talented speakers have influenced many diplomatic decisions. The American Revolution was no different. In Patrick Henry’s “Speech to the Virginia Convention,” he expresses the need for Virginia to join the war and help their friends from Lexington and Concorde. His explanation of the colonial struggle employs rhetorical questions, allusions, and diction to convey the necessity of joining the war effort. Henry’s use of rhetorical questions in his speech compels the listener to crave the next sentence from his mouth.
