     Punk Rock is described as rock & roll to the basics. ... (1) Many bands in the 1960s played rock music, but only a few played it faster and louder than the others. Some of the first bands to experiment in Punk were The Velvet Underground and The New York Dolls.(1) Those bands were the pioneers of Punk Rock. They took basic rock & roll and they played it faster and harder. In the mid 1970s is when Punk Rock really took off and became its own genre. ... Punk bands formed to strip down rock to the basics and to play it for the reason it was created, just for the music. Punk was finally catching on with bands such as the Ramones and the Sex Pistols. More people started getting into the music and Punk grew into the 1980s. In the 1990s Punk made it mainstream, which seems to contradict it’s purpose. Bands such as Green Day and Blink 182 made Punk pop by making the music more up beat and fun. Now Punk is in the mainstream and more people are listening to it now more than ever.
     As time goes on Punk is evolving into many different types of music. All of the different styles are considered Punk because of their unique sound that is different from the mainstream. One of the styles of Punk Rock is just general Punk. ... Lyrics in Punk Rock are usually about anarchy, destroying the government, and everyday life. Many influential bands in Punk Rock are the Ramones, the Clash, and the Sex Pistols. This is the basis and foundation of all Punk Rock. Every other style of Punk has grown out of this one.
