The Renaissance was a period of rebirth that gave birth to some of the most remarkable works of art in the history of humankind. A prime example of the wonderful works of art is Sandro Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. Botticelli’s Venus is typical of the “high renaissance” art with the mix of Greek Mythology, and Christian undertones.
The very style of the painting makes one think of the ancient Greek works of art with a bit of realism in the way the features were drawn. ... The way the nude Venus is taking pains to hide herself from the viewer seems to suggest a purity that was up until that time associated with the Virgin Mary. ... The Renaissance was a time of secular growth, which weakened the position of the church. ... If one really studies Venus in the picture then it becomes obvious there was a bit of exaggeration in some of the features.
