1950’s Nuclear Families; The Perfect Families?
Family has been one of the most important influences in my life. My family has helped shape my life and help me become who I am today. However, while I was growing up, I felt as though my family was different. ... Television and movies usually depict a different kind of family, one that is considered the 1950s nuclear family. This type of family typically has four elements each with their own position that make this family “perfect”. ... Actually in the 1950’s household, no one ever argues. ... The idea that a family could live perfectly together and never argue is absurd. The 1950’s nuclear family doesn’t exist it’s a fairy tale conjured up by 1950’s television executives to guide post war Americans, mostly women and children into giving up some of the new freedoms they had while the men were at war.
