Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death among people 15 - 24, and the 6th leading cause among people 5 - 14. ... The rate of teen suicide has more than tripled since the 1950s, and varies with gender, race, and environment.
Suicide has claimed more American lives than homicide. In 1999, twenty-two thousand five hundred fifty-two people died from homicide, while thirty- one thousand two hundred eighty-four died from suicide.
