I love my india Perspectives

I love my India – Perspectives

When we sat down to decide our group’s project, a dire need was felt for a topic that touched our hearts. ...

Abstract

In this project, our group has tried to present the perspectives of the various members on India. We have also tried to analyze the possible causes for these perspectives, given the backgrounds and inclinations of the members.

Each member was given the following brief:
“What comes to mind when someone mentions India to you? ... ”

The following pages contain the member-wise details and perspectives. ... His father is General Manager, Airport Authority of India while his mother is a school teacher. ...

I love India for its people and my understanding and association with its people, every time I cross the street to come to the old campus as I walk pass the hordes of daily wage laborers in their temporary shacks at night tired after a long day of sweat and toil I see smiles on their faces as the father plays dholak for his semi clad barefoot kids and they in turn dance to the rhythmic beats of his dholak absolutely blithe about their miserable condition and those joyous smiling faces dancing barefooted gives me something to be proud about being an Indian. ... Every time I hear about the some politician being caught for corruption I feel a stab in the heart of the Indian conscience. ... I strongly believe that India cannot progress at least intellectually unless the freedom of speech, thought and expression are actually implemented fully and not just in name. ... and not get beaten (or killed) for doing so is the day that I shall feel that India is ready to be true leader in the world ( I am sure that some of the above mentioned topics will elicit negative and intolerant responses in our own class which is supposed to be the conglomeration of the brightest intellectual minds in the country). I suppose such kind of intolerant views exist in the most developed of nations as well such as US, Britain etc but there the political establishment acknowledges and respects the role played by the unyielding anti-establishment minority (notwithstanding Mr. Bush which I feel is just a appalling chapter in the American political history and surely can not continue). I guess this is even more pertinent and relevant in today’s world environment where every nation is tending to be more and more intolerant, fanatical and conservative.

I hope that this is not how the story ends and Indian will have enough resilience to emerge stronger from this phase…. I hope as everyone does without seeing a bright future in sight …. ... and yet I hope because I love my India. ...

You call it passion you call it fanaticism - but to me it makes proper sense when we block roads to express our joy when India wins in some "trivial" cricket match that might add little value to the "path of glory" we are trading on at present. I love my country for the "illogical" passion she possesses, for the "impractical" actions she takes. I would never have liked to be part of a highly efficient group of machines whose aim lies in ruling the world. Somebody might argue the objective of existence, I will counter argue about the objective of humanity. ... My love fosters from the millions of Indians who survive everyday with almost nil food for existence not to mention about the "makans" they dont even dream to possess. ...
One thing I hate is the hypocrisy of the elite - do I say the politicians. ... So I think although we take great pride when we try to mug up "India is a sovereign socialist secular democracy" it does not reflect in the way we are being treated. ... I think there is none. ... I will not speak about communal divide. For I dont have the right to do so. ...
Am I sounding a bit pessimist? I have no other way of looking at this. I criticize but I dont have the power to protest. ... I think I am drifting from the topic. I dont know how to end. ...

If there is one thing that clearly distinguishes India from other nations, it would be its diverse culture, the myriad of languages, and the amalgamation of races and religions found in it.
There are many things I am proud of being an Indian. However, here I’d like to express my views on some uncomfortable issues, which India would need to resolve – the sooner the better.
India is in many ways, a land of contrast. ... India is all this and more. ... While the religious intolerance meted towards the muslims is fairly known to all, I grew up in the north eastern region of the country where discontentment was high. ... What saddens me most about India is the lack of feeling of a large section of people. ... Just recently Satyendra Dubey, an Alumnus of IIT, Kanpur was killed for reporting to the PMO about the corruption going on in the National Highways Authority of India. ...

India is probably one of the few countries with the largest and most diverse mixture of races. All the five major racial types - Australoid, Mongoloid, Europoid, Caucasian and Negroid - find representation among the people of India, who are mainly a mixed race. ... It is this variety which is a special hallmark of India. ...

The seventh largest and second most populous country in the world, India, has long been considered a country of unrealized potential.
