Brancusi’s “Fish”
“What is real is not the external form, but the essence of things. ... One piece of his work in particular, “Fish”, is indeed very unique and shows all aspects of those unique styles Brancusi liked to use.
Brancusi’s “Fish” was made in the year of 1922. “Fish” is made of gray marble and sits on top of a wooden base which becomes skinnier in the middle. ... This caught my eye because even though this fish is very abstract we can see a relationship between the fish and the mirror. I see this mirror as the water the fish would be embraced in.
Referring back to the quote by Brancusi he states, “…What is real is not the external form…” We see this especially in his sculpture of “Fish”.
