Some things to think about regarding Descartes' rationalism: 1. the foundation alone (the cogito argument) doesn't get us very much knowledge. D. has to continue on by relying on an ontological argument for God's existence. From there he argues that God is good and so he isn't a deceiver; thus, we can rely on our senses. At that point we really get out of skepticism, but you might argue that there are too many gaps to overcome (although, this would not be the place to criticize the ontological argument). 2.
