The Yellow Wallpaper Analysis: Reasons of Insanity
Charlotte Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper”, is a masterful story. ... The wallpaper symbolized the struggle that women faced over the control of men, their struggle for independence. Through this tactic we caught a glimpse into the world of our main character’s isolated life and her struggle with insanity. ... Such a style assists us in understanding the emotional and psychological changes she undergoes in the story, from her mood swings, her obsession with the wallpaper, to insanity. We are immersed into her world, her reality and her insanity. It is only through her eyes that we get to see the reasons for her actions.
The room with the wallpaper is a perfect example for imagery and setting. ... The trapped feeling she gets out of being in the room makes her more vulnerable and susceptible to insanity.
