When someone knows for certain that their time of death is approaching, they often ponder about many things. This is the case with Jefferson, only he not only thinks about them but writes them down as well, as a sort of last will and testament. Jefferson thinks upon death and the life he has lived. He thinks about the difference between humans and hogs and proves to himself that he indeed is not a hog but rather a man. In the later chapters of the novel we see a side of Jefferson we have not seen in previous chapters.
