The author of the case study I choose discussed the rational behind good deeds. She argued that several thought processes could cause morale actions. One of the first things the author talks about is the small common courtesies people do everyday that help others. The author talked about how some people help others to serve self-interest. For instance, a person may give money to a charity that does cancer research because they believe that it may benefit himself or herself or a family member later on down the road. I agree that most people pick specific charities to give money to that spark their interest because the work the charity does may somehow benefit them. I also agree that people may do good deeds for praise or rewards. I sometimes volunteer to do overtime at work from time to time because I know I will receive praise from my manager. I also know that the people in my department sometimes get tickets to events as a reward for doing overtime. If it were not for these benefits I would not do overtime. The author also believed that empathy was a reason that some people may help others. She talked about an experiment in which subjects were told a worker was receiving electric shocks and that the worker was not reacting well to them.
