Icons in Eastern Orthodoxy
Several Arguments arose from the use of icons in the Eastern Orthodox Church. The opposition to divine images are those that interpret scripture in which Moses is instructed by God, “You shall worship the Lord your God, and adore Him alone,” and “You shall not make yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is in earth beneath,” to denounce the use of icons. This interpretation views icons as idolatry and disobedience to God. ... John argues that if icons are idolatry, these items must be the same and should be done away with or if they are accepted so must icons be accepted.
