A Typical Orchestra Most people can identify some of the instruments of a typical orchestra. And most agree that there are basically four types. There four categories have traditionally been identified in the same way that the composer Haydn did in the 18th century: string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. However, there is another way to classify instruments in an orchestra. They can be divided into four other groups according to the way in which their sound is produced. The first group is called chordophones. This word comes from メ chordaモ which means strings in Latin and メphoneユ which means sound in Greek. Knowing this. Itユs easy to realize that chordophone instruments are the string instruments.
