A Gambler or a Legend? Over a decade ago, Pete Rose committed crimes against baseball when he placed bets on baseball games during his time as the Cincinnati Reds manager. He was banned for life and is not able to be inducted into the baseball hall of fame. Now, there is growing controversy on the issue of whether or not the ban should be lifted. The media wants all of Pete Rose’s penalties to be lifted; allowing him back into the game because they believe that he has suffered enough. However, Fay Vincent, in a New York Times editorial, disagrees with the fact that he should be allowed back into the game. He contends that letting Rose back into the game is not what is in the best interest of the sport, and it undermines all commissioners of the past. I disagree with Vincent; I believe he should be allowed back into the game, for it is in the “best interests” of the fans, and the decision of past commissioner have been changed in the past. Vincent’s first argument against reinstating Pete Rose back into the game is that he believes doing so is not in the best interest of the game. He states “the commissioner must act in the best interests of the game.
