ADS- Fad Diets
I have a dream, a life goal if you will, to walk across the room in corduroy pants, in silence. ...
I have done tons of research on many fad diets while looking for the path to my goal. According to the Federal Trade Commission’s pamphlet, “Facts for Consumers: Skinny on Dieting” March 1997, an estimated 50 million Americans will go on diets each year while very few –perhaps only 5%-- will manage to keep it off in the long run. Fad diets are one of the worst ways to lose weight and can be more detrimental than carrying those extra pounds. ...
Okay, let’s peruse the smorgasbord, drooling over the vast array of problems with fad diets. Due to the fact that the judges can only stand to hear my whiney voice for ten minutes, we will only examine three of the most popular fad diets, but so you have a frame of reference, we will begin with what a healthy diet includes. (VA—Food Pyramid)
We’ll begin by diving into the Subway Diet, a diet in which you are allowed only to eat a six inch turkey sub and Lays Baked Potato Chips for lunch, no mayo, oil or cheese and a twelve inch veggie sub (again no mayo, oil or cheese) for dinner with unlimited diet (no calorie) sodas through the day. ...
Another fad diet is the Slimfast Diet, a diet in which you are encouraged o drink a shake for breakfast and lunch and then eat a healthy dinner. ... There are only 240 calories in each shake and a healthy dinner, according to the enclosed plan, ranges from 370-520 calories, which makes the total calories for the day 850-1000, which is far less than the recommended calories for healthy weight loss.
