Patellar Tendonitis (Jumper’s Knee)
INTRODUCTION
The patellar tendon connects the patella to the tibia, which inserts in the tibial tubercle. The patellar tendon is very heavily stressed and is strong, and is needed for good knee and leg extension. Patellar tendonitis is often seen in many jumping sports as well as kicking and running, but not as often. ... Repetitive actions such as those on a tendon may create chronic inflammatory changes in the patellar tendon and causes an overuse syndrome of the tendon. Many of the same factors that are known to aggravate other extensor mechanism disorders, such as inflexibility of the hamstrings, can greatly accentuate the symptoms of patellar tendonitis.
