i couldn't John Steinbeck's novel, Of Mice and Men, disscusses the need of friendship to sustain us. The main characters in the novel, George and Lennie, are best friends who depend on each other to survive. They travel together until they finally reached a stable job in Salinas and settled down to work. Unfortunately, the peace they found will not last forever. Life for George and Lennie on the ranch is harsh and lonely. The other men are also lonely, and so form some kind of companionship which can’t become a true friendship because of their inconsistent lifestyle. Most men worked only until their pay packet came in, and then moved on.Generally, men looking for work were travelling alone, making their lives even more lonely and unbearable. At George and Lennie's arrival at the ranch, the boss was very suspicious of the two friends. For George and Lennie, it was important that they make friends with the other workers after they arrived so that they could live and work in better harmony together. They were an unlikely pair in atitude and size, even if George's intelligence was compleating Lennie's ignorance, and Lennie's strength -George's small stature.
