Here I would like the add, that merit is not just quality, it is also the amount of hard work that goes in trying to excel in that particular feature making the person excel. Therefore in a nutshell merit is hard work backed up with natural ability.
Though in the Indian education system things are different, examinations are used as a scale to measure merit. ...
