In this paper, I will summarize, analyze, and develop my interpretation of Davita’s Harp. I will best explain how I perceived the book and what I was thinking as it went along. This story begins in New York City around the 1930’s. Davita’s mother, who is Jewish, and her father, a Gentile, have somewhat put their radically different pasts into an almost shared dedication to Communism. They are raising their daughter to ignore the variety of her background in favor of the passionately nurtured mixture of optimism and matter-of-factness that represents to them the sure road to international community. But Davita, who possesses exceptional sensitivity and intelligence, even as a small child can see dispute and disagreement everywhere around her.
