A View From The Bridge
By Arthur Miller
We are reading A View from the Bridge by Arthur Miller. ... He then became interested in work and lives of the communities of dockworkers and long shore men, where he had previously worked and produced the play ‘A View from the Bridge’.
‘A View from the Bridge’ is set in the 1940’s, a time when there was very poor housing and very poorly paid work, and times where bad in Italy. ...
The play is about two illegal immigrants from Sicily called Marco and Rodolfo (Beatrice’s cousins) who go to America to find work. ...
Eddie is a character we are encouraged to either sympathise with or despise and the way that Eddie is so infatuated with Catherine he allows his marriage with Beatrice to breakdown as can be seen from where they are fighting and rowing throughout the play from in act 1 where he says “(insulted) what kinda remark is that” to act 2 where he says “all right let her go out, then! ... From the way Eddie is acting makes the audience feel anger towards Eddie and so encourages the audience to despise him.
