I find this movie to be one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen. ... One can never be sure if the patients in the ward are actually insane or not. But one always gets the feeling that their stay at the institution does them more harm than good. ... A nurse discovers Billy Bibbit in bed with Candy in one of the rooms. ... The most dispiriting part is that one can see that he has discovered his lost ‘manhood’ but by threatening to inform his mother about his behavior, the nurse deliberately reduces him to the stuttering 30 year old child that he always was. ...
One can’t help but feel that even though McMurphy dies, he is the true winner and in death has defeated the tyrannical regime of Nurse Ratched and inspired Chief Bromden to escape.
